In the fourth installment of the slaptape series, v.stevenson crafts two exquisite extended collage pieces assembled mostly from the contents of a corrupted hard drive. Fragments of his prior work are retrieved by the disk utility in various states of corruption. However, as Stevenson's work often centers on error and the repetition of malfunction, there is no way to tell which sounds are intentional and which are corrupted. These pieces are truly crafted for the cassette and much of the... favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 2 reviews ) Topics: Experimental, gLiTch, tape collage
In this release, you'll find Say My Lovehole (Sami Louhela/Ceniq) on the tapedeck and Hanga Gallon (Henkka Kyllönen/no Xivic) throwing an enormous diversity of samples at it. In a virtually random matter, they improvised "Universumix" on the spot - disregarding any common musical tendency. It resulted in what is arguably our most controversial release to date. Expect something quite raw, hard to digest, maybe even a listening endurance test, but nonetheless also an interesting... Topics: Found Sounds, Improv, Abstract, tape collage

San Francisco Chamber Music Society Concert from November 15, 1976. The most unconventional composers in the Bay Area at the time, presented on a series usually host to more conventional classical music. Imagine a fish aquarium with staff lines drawn on it. Now play the fish as they move up and down the scale in the bowl. You have the concept of this infamous work that, for a short time, became the talk of the town here in San Francisco. Finest early days tape collage. Pachyderm started life in spring 1994 as the third collection of recordings, then under the name "Forgiveness", that would become Eucci and The Audio ELW. While most of the preceding recordings were generally two-layer audio collages, typically of radio or some instrument, Pachyderm broke through by building in many layers. This was done without any multitrack techniques. It was accomplished initially by just using spliced-together headphone cables and... favoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 2 reviews ) Topics: tape collage, electroacoustic, lo-fi, early works

Terry Douglas composes extensively for electronic media, orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, and rockin' teen-age combos. His music investigates the fundamental elements of musical communication through new timbral, formal, and technological relationships. His recorded output is the culmination of a compressed yet wide-ranging exploration of the man and his work which began, simply enough, as a search for an understanding of Helmholtzian thermodynamics. It has since evolved instead... Topics: tape collage, Weirdomusic, Experimental, Avantgarde, Cut-up, Eclectic Electronics Source: WM Recordings/Terry Douglas

At the beginning of 2004, Sylvie Bouvier worked with her pupils (7 to 9 years old Adama, Zacharia, Rojin & Swell) on writing some rap lyrics as it seemed to be the very way they would learn to read and write french. I knew Rojin, Zacharia and Adama for having already worked with them. I found the result so nice, so astonishaly personal, that i proposed the guys to record them while toasting their text, and to make a track for them. "To Ancient Noise" is a compilation of manipulated environmental sounds. Whether field recordings, found sounds, radio snippets, or other odd recorded artifacts of audio, these elements are worked by sound artists in interesting and often startling ways. In some cases the sounds may not be processed much at all, but are rather selected for their rhythmic virtues. In other cases, sounds have been layered and heavily effected into lush and alien soundscapes, dark and mysterious.
